NHAI invites bids for six-lane elevated corridor in flood-prone Kolhapur

Infrastructure  -  Nov 06,2025  -

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids to build a six-lane elevated corridor along the Kagal-Satara stretch of NH-48 in Maharashtra’s flood-affected Kolhapur region.

The corridor aims to improve resilience, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance regional connectivity.

Kolhapur has faced repeated monsoon flooding, disrupting logistics and damaging highways. The new corridor, designed with improved drainage and flood-control features, will provide uninterrupted freight and passenger movement even during heavy rainfall.

This initiative forms part of NHAI’s broader effort to climate-proof national highways through design innovation and sustainability-oriented engineering. The project will also decongest urban areas while supporting trade movement between Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka.

Once operational, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time and enhance road safety, significantly boosting industrial productivity in the region.
