Western Railway commissions Gati Shakti cargo terminal in Gujarat

Infrastructure  -  Mar 31,2026  -

Western Railway has operationalised a Gati Shakti cargo terminal at Gangadhra in Gujarat, adding capacity to India’s multimodal freight network. The terminal is designed to handle bulk and container cargo efficiently with integrated rail connectivity.

Developed under the PM Gati Shakti framework, the facility is expected to reduce logistics costs by enabling faster loading, unloading, and aggregation of goods. Gujarat’s strong industrial base makes such terminals critical for supporting export-oriented manufacturing. The terminal is now live and expected to see gradual volume ramp-up.

The development of such terminals is part of a larger strategy to shift freight from road to rail, improving cost efficiency and reducing emissions.

As more industries connect to these logistics hubs, the benefits are expected to cascade across supply chains, enhancing competitiveness of Indian exports.
