West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to inaugurate the new Birla Opus paint manufacturing facility at Vidyasagar Industrial Park in Kharagpur, marking a major milestone for the state’s industrial landscape. 

The Aditya Birla Group’s flagship plant, spread across approximately 86 acres, represents an investment of around Rs 1,500 crore and is expected to generate over 600 direct and 1,500 indirect employment opportunities. 

The factory will significantly boost the region’s manufacturing ecosystem, reinforcing West Bengal’s reputation as a key industrial hub in eastern India.

The inauguration has, however, been accompanied by political intrigue after industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, who was expected to attend, withdrew from the event.
