Vedanta progresses on land acquisition for Dhenkanal Smelter, targets 6 MTPA capacity

Metallurgical Industries  -  Sep 12,2025  -

Vedanta is actively moving forward with its plan to establish a new 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) aluminium smelter in Dhenkanal, Odisha.

Speaking on the sidelines of a recent industry event, a top company official confirmed that land acquisition for the mega-project is progressing well.

The new smelter is a cornerstone of Vedanta's ambitious plan to double its total aluminium production capacity from 3 MTPA to 6 MTPA.

The project is expected to be a significant driver of local economic growth, with the potential to create over two lakh direct and indirect jobs.

Given the capital-intensive nature of the aluminium industry, the project is a major investment, and its completion is anticipated to take three to four years.

The company is also exploring the creation of an "Aluminium Park" in Jharsuguda to support downstream manufacturing and attract ancillary industries.
