Andhra Pradesh to establish first-of-its-kind space city in Tirupati

Infrastructure  -  Sep 12,2025  -

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the establishment of a "Space City" in Tirupati.

The project, which is being spearheaded by the state in collaboration with space technology startup Skyroot Aerospace, aims to create an integrated hub for rocket manufacturing, assembly, testing, and storage.

The State Investment Promotion Board and the cabinet have both given their approval for the project, which will be developed on a sprawling 300 acres of land. Skyroot Aerospace is set to invest Rs 400 crore in the facility.

According to officials, the strategic location near the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota was a key factor in the decision, as it will provide a significant logistical advantage for future private satellite launches.

The initiative aligns with the state's new Aerospace and Defence Policy, which seeks to attract up to Rs 1 lakh crore in investments over the next five years, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a key player in the nation's "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India) mission.
