UP set to develop Rs 700-crore EV manufacturing park on 500 acres in Kanpur

Manufacturing  -  Jun 17,2025  -

The Uttar Pradesh government has stated its intention to make Kanpur a major center for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, with an estimated investment of around Rs 700 crore.

As part of the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision - 2030, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will create a modern EV park spanning 500 acres near Bhimsen, right by the dedicated freight corridor, according to an official statement.

"With an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, the project will be executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is poised to position Kanpur as a key player in India's EV ecosystem," the statement mentioned.

"The main goal of the EV park is to strengthen the local supply chain for electric vehicles and promote manufacturing within the country," it added.

The park will host factories for making electric motors, chassis, steel parts, and lithium-ion cells.

There will also be facilities for putting together lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, and other electronic parts, the statement noted.

A dedicated research and development (R&D) center will be a crucial part of the project, encouraging new ideas and helping develop advanced products. This R&D unit is expected to contribute not only to local progress but also to the global advancement of EV technologies.
