Tripura to establish fruit processing unit in Dhalai district

Food Processing  -  Jul 14,2025  -

The Tripura government is set to establish a new fruit processing center in Nalkata, located in the Dhalai district.

The unit will be set up through a collaborative effort between the government and private entities, leveraging expertise and resources from both sectors.

This initiative, to be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to provide a robust value chain for the abundant fruit produce, particularly pineapples, in the region.

Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath recently announced the plan during the Pineapple Festival in Kumarghat, Unakoti district.

He highlighted the government's commitment to boosting farmers' income and increasing exports of horticultural products.

The initiative is expected to further boost Tripura's fruit exports. Minister Nath noted that in the past seven years, Tripura has exported 73.15 MT of pineapples to countries like Dubai, Oman, and Qatar.

Dhalai district is a prominent pineapple-growing area in Tripura, especially known for the Kew variety.
