Thiruvananthapuram airport expansion gets Rs 1,300 crore boost

Infrastructure  -  Jun 11,2025  -

Expansion plans for the Thiruvananthapuram airport have gained a lot of speed, with Adani Airports securing USD 750 million through international loans to upgrade facilities across its six airports.

Of this amount, Rs 1,300 crore will be used for Project Anantha, which focuses on expanding Terminal 2. Another Rs 700 crore will go towards improving non-flight related services like shops, food and drink outlets, duty-free stores, and other amenities.

These funds will support upgrades at airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangalore, Jaipur, and Guwahati.

Project Anantha involves expanding the current 45,000 square meter terminal, which handles 3.2 million passengers yearly, to 1,65,000 square meters. This will allow it to handle nearly 12 million passengers per year.

The terminal will include a multi-level terminal with direct access from the curb, an airport plaza, a hotel, commercial and administrative buildings, and expanded car parking. Additional improvements to the airport’s infrastructure include a new air traffic control (ATC) tower, an international cargo complex, and a remote check-in facility on the landside. Adani Airport Holdings stated that all approvals are pending, but plans and funding are ready.
