Thirumangalam-Vadugapatti National Highway project nears December completion

Infrastructure  -  Sep 16,2025  -

The four-laning of the 36-km stretch between Thirumangalam and Vadugapatti on National Highway 744 is on track for a December completion, a major boost for road connectivity in Tamil Nadu.

The Rs 554 crore project, which is a crucial part of the Madurai-Kollam greenfield National Highway, was originally scheduled for completion in February 2025 but faced delays due to land acquisition issues and protests from local residents.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Madurai region, has been working to fast-track the project. Once commissioned, this stretch will significantly reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and facilitate smoother movement of goods and people.

As part of the project, 16 vehicular underpasses are being constructed, including two pedestrian subways at Aalampatti and M. Subbulapuram, which have been identified as accident-prone areas.

The four-lane road begins at T. Pudupatti bypass road in Thirumangalam and passes through Kalupatti and Kunathur. The completion of this project is expected to greatly benefit the local economy by improving logistics and providing a safer and more efficient transport corridor.
