Larsen & Toubro secures major contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project

Metallurgical Industries  -  Sep 16,2025  -

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a "large" order for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, popularly known as the bullet train project.

The company classifies a "large" order as one valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore. This new contract, awarded by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), involves the construction of 156 route kilometers (RKM) of high-speed ballastless track.

The new order, designated as Package T1, covers the section from Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex to Zaroli village in Gujarat. The scope of work includes design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning.

This is L&T's second track-work package for the MAHSR corridor; the company was previously awarded Package T3, covering 116 km, in April 2022. With this latest contract, L&T is now responsible for over 50% of the total track-works on the project.

The track-works will utilize Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track Technology, which is crucial for enabling train speeds of up to 320 kmph, ensuring superior ride quality, and providing a longer service life with reduced maintenance.
