Tata Power-DDL collaborates with Japanese firm Nissin Electric

Power Generation  -  Jun 25,2025  -

Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) has worked with Nissin Electric, a company from Japan, to set up India's first small power station (micro substation). This substation uses a new technology called a power voltage transformer (PVT). Its purpose is to deliver electricity directly to homes at a lower cost and more reliably. A statement explained that "Micro substation with PVT can convert high-voltage power directly from transmission lines to low voltage power, suitable for residential consumers."

This new substation is part of a larger project called the International Demonstration Project on Japan’s Energy Efficiency Technologies, which was put forward by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

To start this project, Tata Power-DDL and Nissin Electric signed an agreement on August 21, 2024. Tata Power-DDL, which provides electricity to about nine million customers in North Delhi, plans to use this technology to supply power to hard-to-reach areas, which will also lower the cost of setting up the power system.
