JLR to begin CKD operations at Ranipet plant from early 2026

Automotive Industries  -  Jun 25,2025  -

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a car company owned by Tata Motors, will start assembling vehicles from "completely knocked down" (CKD) kits at its Ranipet plant in Tamil Nadu starting in early 2026. The Ranipet factory, located in Panapakkam, was approved in September 2024 and will be able to produce more than 2.5 lakh (250,000) units per year.

Tata Motors has committed to investing Rs 9,000 crore in this project. PB Balaji, the Group Chief Financial Officer of Tata Motors, explained that this will help them deal with some of the challenges in customer demand by increasing sales efforts and sending demand to stable markets like the UK and Europe.

JLR plans to use the timing of the Chennai plant's development to save money and use its production capacity effectively before 2030. Balaji also mentioned that the CKD operations will be moved from Pune to Ranipet in stages.
