Gorakhpur airport to soon get a new terminal building

Infrastructure  -  Jun 25,2025  -

The Gorakhpur airport is likely to get better facilities soon, including a new terminal building and a longer runway, according to airport officials.

An official agreement was signed between the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Indian Air Force, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to build a new public area at the airport.

Under this agreement, the Indian Air Force will give up 44 acres of land for the new, modern terminal and to make the runway longer. In return, the state government will give the Indian Air Force an equal amount of land in another location.

Airport director R.K. Prasher said that this land swap will allow for the airport's improvements, and construction is expected to start after the monsoon season.

This development is part of a bigger plan where the central government is investing ₹900 crore to make the airport meet international standards.

Even though the Indian Air Force owns the airport, the Airports Authority of India manages its public flights. With the new plan, the airport will undergo a major change to become a highly advanced aviation hub.

Officials stated that the improved airport will have advanced navigation systems like DVOR and DME, which will allow flights to operate in all types of weather. The upcoming terminal will be much bigger and able to handle up to 10 aircraft at the same time.
