Bondada Engineering receives LoA for 400 MWh BESS project from TNGECL

Power Generation  -  Jun 25,2025  -

Bondada Engineering has received an official letter from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation (TNGECL). This letter gives them the right to build standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 400 MWh (which is 200 MW that can run for 2 hours). These systems will be located in Vellaviduthi and Thennampatty in Tamil Nadu.

This project is the largest storage capacity order in the company's history. It's a big step towards their goal of reaching 10 GW of green energy capacity by 2030.

Bondada will operate these systems under a "build-own-operate" (BOO) model, which they won through a competitive bidding process that included government funding (state viability gap funding or VGF). They will provide complete two-cycle charging and discharging capabilities to support the power grid when needed.

The aim of this project is to make the power grid more stable, to better use power from renewable sources like solar that don't always produce power evenly, and to manage times when electricity demand is highest. This will help Tamil Nadu move faster towards clean energy.

A company spokesperson said, "This project marks a key milestone for Bondada Group in the energy storage area and shows our strong dedication to improving India’s clean energy system."
