Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is set to commence production at the Ashoknagar oil field project in West Bengal in collaboration with the state government.

The project is expected to contribute to regional energy security and reduce dependence on imported crude.

It will also generate royalty revenues and local employment opportunities. 

The development signals renewed momentum in onshore hydrocarbon exploration in eastern India.
