Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the bhumi pujan for the Rs.12,000-crore Namrup fertiliser project in Assam, marking a major boost to domestic fertiliser production capacity. 

The project aims to revive and expand capacity at the existing Namrup complex, reducing India’s dependence on imported urea.

Once operational, the plant is expected to significantly enhance fertiliser availability for farmers across eastern and northeastern India. 

The investment supports the government’s broader push for self-reliance in critical agri-inputs. 

It is also expected to generate employment and spur ancillary industrial development in the region.
