The Odisha government has approved a 10 GW ingot-wafer facility along with a 5 GW solar cell plant, marking a critical upstream capacity addition. 

The project addresses a key bottleneck in India’s solar supply chain, which remains dependent on imports for wafers. 

It is expected to attract ancillary industries, including module makers and equipment suppliers. 

The development strengthens Odisha’s industrial profile beyond mining-led investments. 

Officials expect the project to anchor a long-term solar manufacturing ecosystem in the state.
