NTPC to mark nuclear power entry with 2,800 Mw Project next month

Power Generation  -  Aug 25,2025  -

NTPC Ltd. is set to formally enter the nuclear power sector by laying the foundation stone for its first project next month.

The project, with a planned capacity of 2,800 MW, will be located at Banswara in Rajasthan and will consist of four 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs).

This initiative marks a significant step in NTPC's diversification into green energy and aligns with India's long-term energy security goals.

The first unit of the Rajasthan project is scheduled for commissioning in 2031, with the full plant becoming operational by 2036.

NTPC is also exploring partnerships with international players and consultants to aggressively expand its nuclear power portfolio, with a target of adding 30 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047.
