NTPC and NPCIL establish JV to invest Rs 42,000 crore in 2,800 MW Nuclear Plant

Power Generation  -  Sep 26,2025  -

NTPC Limited and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) are set to invest a massive Rs 42,000 crore (approximately $5.05 billion) in a joint venture to develop the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant (MBRAPP).

The project, located near the Banswara district of Rajasthan, will have an installed capacity of 2,800 MW, consisting of four 700 MW units of the indigenous IPHWR-700 (Indian Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor) technology.

The project is structured under the ASHVINI Joint Venture, with NPCIL holding a 51% stake and NTPC holding 49%.

This strategic partnership leverages NPCIL's nuclear expertise and NTPC's massive scale and financial strength, accelerating the government's fleet mode reactor program aimed at achieving a 100 GWe nuclear capacity by 2047.

The foundation stone for the plant was laid in September 2025, with construction expected to begin in late 2025.
