Mumbai’s New and Third Airport project takes off

Infrastructure  -  Aug 01,2025  -

The Vadhavan offshore airport project, an ambitious plan to establish Mumbai's third airport, is gaining momentum with a target to begin construction as early as 2026.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 76,220 crore, is being developed to support the Vadhavan Port and decongest the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Following the state government's decision to appoint an agency for a Detailed Project Report (DPR), a pre-feasibility study is underway to explore the possibility of building an offshore runway.

The new airport will be a key component of a larger infrastructure hub and is expected to significantly ease air traffic and enhance connectivity in the region
