MEIL secures Rs 13,000 crore nuclear reactor contract

Power Generation  -  Apr 25,2025  -

Megha Engineering & Infrastructures has received the formal purchase order or the letter of approval for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract valued at Rs 12,800 crore from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for the construction of two 700 megawatt electric (MWe) nuclear reactors—Kaiga units 5 and 6.

With this, MEIL marks its entry into the nuclear energy sector, the Hyderabad-based company stated, adding that this represents the largest-ever order placed by NPCIL.

It received the purchase order nearly a year after it was awarded the contract in June 2024.

"For the first time, NPCIL utilized the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method for awarding this project—striking a careful balance between quality and cost. Competing with industry leaders like BHEL and L&T, MEIL was chosen for its robust technical approach and competitive pricing," it noted.

MEIL already possesses a diversified presence across sectors including power, water, hydrocarbons, irrigation, oil rigs, defence, transport, compressed gas distribution, and electric mobility.
