US defence major Lockheed Martin has indicated the possibility of manufacturing some C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft in India as part of future defence procurement plans. 

The move would align with India’s “Make in India” and defence indigenisation objectives while deepening strategic cooperation between India and the US. 

Local manufacturing could involve Indian private sector partners and global supply chains. 

The proposal comes amid growing demand for medium transport aircraft within the Indian Air Force.

If realised, the initiative could significantly boost India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities and technology transfer. It would also strengthen India’s position in the global defence production ecosystem.
