Jindal Stainless doubles slag processing capacity in Odisha

Metallurgical Industries  -  Oct 15,2025  -

Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel producer, has doubled its slag processing capacity at its Jajpur facility in Odisha, marking a major step forward in its drive toward sustainable and circular steel manufacturing.

The expansion, achieved through the installation of a second wet milling plant in collaboration with Harsco Environmental under a long-term agreement, represents an investment of around USD 150 million and is expected to create about 140 new jobs in the region.

The new facility will significantly enhance metal recovery from slag — a byproduct of steelmaking — enabling the company to extract valuable materials that were previously lost as waste.

By reprocessing slag, Jindal Stainless aims to reduce its dependence on virgin raw materials, conserve natural resources, and minimize environmental impact.

The move aligns with the company’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap and its ambition to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.
