Six-lane Maduravoyal to Sriperumbudur highway to get approval in January

Infrastructure  -  Oct 15,2025  -

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has revealed that sanction for a six-lane highway from Maduravoyal to Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu will likely be approved in January.

This corridor is critical: Sriperumbudur is a major industrial and automotive hub (home to Hyundai, Ford, etc.), and Maduravoyal connects to the western suburbs and expressway networks.

Road infrastructure in this belt has long lagged, causing congestion and higher logistics costs for firms operating in and around Chennai.

The upgraded highway is expected to reduce transit times, ease freight movement, and enhance connectivity to ports, airports, and industrial estates.

The approval will likely unlock further private-public partnerships, land acquisition, and construction contracts.

From a regional development perspective, improving this corridor will help decongest the city core, promote investments in peripheral zones, and integrate Chennai more seamlessly with burgeoning satellite industrial towns.
