HP to double India manufacturing under PLI 2.0

Manufacturing  -  Aug 19,2025  -

Tech giant HP is accelerating its manufacturing footprint in India, committing to double its local production under the government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) 2.0 scheme.

The move is a significant step in the company's strategy to capitalize on India's burgeoning PC market and aligns with the nation's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) initiative.

HP India's Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Ipsita Dasgupta, stated that the company has already increased its local manufacturing from 6% to 13% within the first year of the PLI 2.0 scheme.

The ambitious plan is to scale this up to 35% over the next four to five years. The expansion will focus on a broad portfolio of products, including laptops, desktops, and all-in-one PCs, and is expected to create more jobs and support the broader IT hardware ecosystem.

This strategic expansion is driven by strong market demand, particularly from business customers and the growing adoption of AI PCs in the country. HP notes that AI PCs have already grown to represent 25% of its sales in India, mirroring global trends.
