Cabinet approves construction of 6-lane access-controlled capital region ring road in Odisha

Infrastructure  -  Aug 19,2025  -

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given its green light for the construction of a 6-lane access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass) in Odisha.

This major infrastructure project, with an approved capital cost of Rs 8,307.74 crore, is set to significantly ease traffic congestion and spur socio-economic growth in the region.

The 110.875-km ring road will be developed on a Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) model and will connect Rameshwar and Tangi.

It is designed to divert heavy commercial traffic away from the urban centers of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Khordha, thereby enhancing freight movement efficiency and reducing logistics costs. The project's alignment will integrate with key national highways and a state highway, providing seamless connectivity to economic, social, and logistics nodes.

The project will also enhance multi-modal connectivity by linking with the Bhubaneswar airport, a major railway station, a proposed multi-modal logistics park, and two ports.
