Gwalior takes a leap towards sustainable waste management

Chemicals  -  Jul 03,2025  -

Gwalior, the historic city in Madhya Pradesh, is poised to take a significant step forward in addressing its municipal solid waste (MSW) challenge.

The Gwalior Municipal Corporation (GMC) has invited bids from interested concessionaires for the development of a comprehensive MSW processing facility at Kedarpur, aiming to transform the city's waste management landscape.

This ambitious project, estimated to cost Rs 75.27 crore, will operate on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate (on royalty), and Transfer (DBFOT) basis under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The initiative underscores Gwalior's commitment to sustainable urban development and a cleaner environment.

The development at Kedarpur is crucial for Gwalior, which, like many Indian cities, faces the growing challenge of managing increasing volumes of municipal waste.

Currently, Gwalior generates a substantial amount of solid waste daily, and while efforts are made for collection and some existing processing, a comprehensive and modern facility is vital for sustainable long-term solutions.
