The long-pending 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project (HEP) in Arunachal Pradesh has been granted environmental clearance by the Expert Appraisal Committee under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. 

The run-of-the-river project, jointly promoted by Jindal Power and Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh, will be one of India’s largest hydropower projects. 

It is expected to play a crucial role in supplying clean, firm power to the national grid, complementing intermittent renewables like wind and solar. 

While the clearance marks a major milestone, the project has been under scrutiny for its potential impact on local biodiversity and tribal communities. 

The promoters have committed to comprehensive environmental management measures.
