Coromandel International to boost desalination capacity at Visakhapatnam Plant

Distillery  -  Sep 25,2025  -

Coromandel International plans to increase desalination capacity at its Visakhapatnam plant to secure sustainable water for industrial operations.

The company has signed an agreement with Veolia Water Technologies and Solutions (India) to expand its existing desalination plant from 6 Million Litres per Day (MLD) to 9 MLD.

The plant's desalination capacity will increase by 50%, from the current 6 MLD (which was commissioned in 2023) to 9 MLD.

Once the upgraded plant is operational, it is expected to meet approximately 60% to 70% of Coromandel's total water requirement at its Vizag facility.

This substantial reliance on desalinated seawater will significantly reduce the plant's dependence on external freshwater sources.

The expansion is part of the company’s broader water management strategy, ensuring uninterrupted supply for production while reducing environmental impact.

This aligns with India’s increasing focus on industrial sustainability and resource optimization.
