Chief Minister M K Stalin to inaugurate Vietnamese EV plant on July 31

Automotive Industries  -  Jul 23,2025  -

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is set to inaugurate the integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant of Vietnamese EV major VinFast in Thoothukudi on July 31, 2025.

This plant, backed by an investment commitment of Rs 16,000 crore (USD 2 billion), is expected to create 3,500 jobs and will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles in its first phase.

The rapid development of the plant, from the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to inauguration in just 15 months, has been highlighted as a testament to Tamil Nadu's business-friendly environment and policies.

The facility in Thoothukudi is poised to make the port city a significant automotive cluster, joining Chennai, Hosur, and Coimbatore. VinFast has already opened bookings for its premium electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, on July 15, with public sales and deliveries expected to commence in August, following the factory's opening.
