BPCL invites bids for MSW-based compressed biogas plant in Chhattisgarh

Power Generation  -  Jul 03,2025  -

In a significant move to bolster India's renewable energy portfolio and tackle the mounting challenge of municipal solid waste (MSW), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has issued a tender for the establishment of a 130 tonne per day (TPD) MSW-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at the Trenching Ground in Jamul, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.

This ambitious project signifies BPCL's strategic diversification into the renewable energy sector and its commitment to sustainable solutions.

The proposed plant aims to convert a substantial volume of municipal solid waste into compressed biogas, a clean and eco-friendly fuel with properties similar to conventional natural gas (CNG).

This not only offers a sustainable waste management solution for Bhilai but also contributes to the nation's energy security by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.

The tender, issued under a domestic competitive bidding (DCB) basis, seeks experienced players to undertake the development of this commercial-use plant.
