BluPine Energy wins bid for Solar Project with Storage in Rajasthan

Power Generation  -  Apr 22,2025  -

BluPine Energy has signed a 25-year contract (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The contract is for a 150 MW solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, which will also include a system to store energy.

This contract is part of SECI's bigger effort to buy 2,000 MW of solar power from projects connected to the national power grid, along with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage. The project in Bikaner helps India move towards its national goal of having 500 GW of energy capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030.

As India adds more renewable energy like solar and wind, which don't always produce power consistently, energy storage has become very important.

To make sure the power grid is stable and works well, especially when a lot of power is needed, the Ministry of Power has made it mandatory to include energy storage starting from February 2025.
