Andhra Pradesh govt approves two renewable energy projects

Power Generation  -  Apr 22,2025  -

The Andhra Pradesh government has given the go-ahead for two renewable energy projects. One is a 540 MW solar project in Anantapur, and the other is an 88 MW wind project in Kurnool.

These projects are part of the state's plan for clean energy in 2024.

The approvals were given after technical and financial checks by the state's renewable energy development group (NREDCAP). ReNew Vikram Shakti will build the solar farms in six villages in the Anantapur district. JSW Neo Energy will build the wind farm in the Kurnool district.

These projects are meant to boost the state's renewable energy setup. The state government has the option to buy up to 30 percent of the power produced, but the price needs to be approved by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC).

The companies building the projects will get government or public land on a 30-year lease for Rs 31,000 per acre each year. This cost will go up by 5 percent every two years.

They won't have to pay fees to change the land use, and the land will be treated as not used for farming. Getting the power from the projects to the grid will be handled by APTRANSCO, but the companies themselves will build the necessary connections. The projects must be finished within 24 months.
