Bihar's Greenfield Highway project kicks off as GR Infra secures appointment date

Infrastructure  -  Jul 10,2025  -

The work on a key segment of the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Greenfield Highway has officially commenced.

GR Infraprojects Ltd., a leading Indian infrastructure company, has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, GR Varanasi Kolkata Highway Private Limited, has received the 'Appointed Date' from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as July 1.

This signals the formal start of the ambitious project, set to revolutionise connectivity in the region.

The project involves the construction of a 33.50-kilometre six-lane Greenfield highway stretch, extending from Anarbansalea village to Sagrampur village (from Km 151+200 to Km 184+700) in Bihar.

This vital section forms part of Package-7 of the broader Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata highway, a flagship initiative under the Indian government's Bharatmala Pariyojana aimed at bolstering the nation's road network.

Valued at a substantial Rs 1,248.37 crore, this project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).

The HAM model is a robust framework that balances risk-sharing between the public and private sectors, combining elements of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) with Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT).

This approach is designed to ensure efficient project delivery and long-term sustainability.
