The West Bengal government has issued a global tender seeking private partners for the development of the Tajpur deep-sea port. 

The port is planned as a major maritime gateway capable of handling large vessels, improving cargo-handling efficiency for industries in eastern India. 

Once developed, it is expected to significantly reduce logistics dependence on ports like Haldia and Paradip.

The tender is a major step forward after prolonged delays and multiple rounds of stakeholder consultations. 

The port’s development is anticipated to catalyse industrial growth in the coastal belt, attracting steel, cement, logistics and export-oriented industries. 

With deeper draft capabilities, the port could open new shipping routes and serve as a competitive alternative for global trade flows into the region.
