Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland plans to invest up to Rs. 500 crore in a greenfield electric vehicle battery pack manufacturing facility near Chennai.

The plant will produce battery packs for the company’s growing electric mobility portfolio.

Officials said the investment supports Ashok Leyland’s strategy to expand EV manufacturing capabilities in India.

The facility will strengthen localisation of EV components and reduce reliance on imports.
