The National Highways Authority of India has awarded the contract for construction of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram bypass on the Kallagam–Meensurutti section of National Highway-81 in Tamil Nadu.

The bypass project is aimed at improving traffic movement along the corridor and easing congestion in the historic town area.

Officials said the road development will strengthen connectivity between key towns in the region.

The project forms part of efforts to upgrade national highway infrastructure in Tamil Nadu.

Construction will begin following site mobilisation and project approvals.
