Homegrown chip startup Zepto Logic has signed a Rs. 250 crore memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a fabless chip design house and a VLSI skilling centre focused on system-on-chips, ASICs, FPGAs and embedded solutions. 

The initiative pairs domestic design capability with workforce development—aiming to strengthen local IP creation and provide a pipeline of engineers for India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. 

By linking design services with an existing Coimbatore-based associate, the project positions Tamil Nadu as a regional hub for semiconductor design and for vendors targeting AI, telecom and industrial applications.

A second phase of the project is expected to focus on collaborative R&D with universities and global IP licensors, broadening Tamil Nadu’s semiconductor capabilities beyond entrylevel design services.

The skilling centre is also being positioned to feed talent into future fabrication and advanced packaging ecosystems planned across southern India.
