Vanya Steels pioneers green energy  with waste-to-energy plant in Karnataka

Power Generation  -  Jul 18,2025  -

Vanya Steels is making a significant stride towards sustainable manufacturing with a planned investment of Rs 100 crore.

This capital will be utilized to establish a 10-megawatt (MW) waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant at its existing facility in Koppal, Karnataka.

This ambitious project is designed to operate on Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (WHRB) technology, a cutting-edge method that captures and converts the substantial residual heat generated during the steel production process into clean, usable electricity.

Traditionally, this heat is lost to the environment, making the WtE plant a prime example of industrial symbiosis and resource efficiency.

Krishan Kumar Jallan, Founder and Chairman of A-One Steel Group, emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative.

"This WHRB-based captive power plant will repurpose residual heat from the steelmaking process—energy traditionally lost to the environment—into a reliable source of green power," he stated.

"This will reduce dependence on grid electricity, lower operational costs, and cut carbon emissions, advancing both environmental goals and energy security."
