Union Cabinet approves Rs 7,616 crore road and rail boost for Bihar

Infrastructure  -  Sep 12,2025  -

The Union Cabinet has given its nod to two major infrastructure projects worth a total of Rs 7,616 crore to enhance connectivity and boost economic activity in Bihar and its neighbouring states.

The two projects are a key component of the government's infrastructure development push.

The first project is a new 82.4 km four-lane highway between Mokama and Munger, part of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor.

The project, with a cost of Rs 4,447 crore, will significantly cut down travel time and ease congestion on a route that is crucial for the region's industrial hubs.

The second project involves the doubling of the Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat railway line, a 177 km stretch across Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

At a cost of Rs 3,169 crore, this will increase line capacity and improve the transport of essential freight such as coal, cement, and fertilisers, benefiting millions of people across the three states.
