Union Cabinet approves Rs 3,626 crore for Pune Metro expansion

Infrastructure  -  Jun 26,2025  -

The Central government has approved the second phase of the Pune Metro Rail Project.

This expansion will connect Vanaz to Chandani Chowk (Corridor 2A) and Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (Corridor 2B). This will cost about Rs 3626.24 crore and will extend the current Vanaz–Ramwadi line from Phase 1.

These two elevated lines will stretch for 12.75 kilometers and have 13 stations. They will link fast-growing areas like Chandani Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi. The government expects the project to be finished in four years.

A government statement said that this important plan is a natural extension of the existing Corridor-2. It fits with the bigger transport plan that aims for a continuous metro line from Chandani Chowk to Wagholi, making East–West travel in Pune much easier.

These new lines will connect important IT centers, business areas, schools, and homes. This will encourage more people to use public transport and boost the number of riders on the entire metro network
