Union Cabinet accepts Rs 22,864 crore Greenfield high-speed corridor from Shillong to Silchar

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved, a 166.80 km greenfield high-speed corridor was approved to link Mawlyngkhung near Shillong in Meghalaya to Panchgram near Silchar in Assam.

According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a total capital cost of Rs 22,864 crore.

"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal for the development, maintenance and management of four-lane greenfield access-controlled 166.80 km of National Highway No 06 from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam on hybrid annuity mode...at a total capital cost of Rs 22,864 crore," the statement said.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, in a press brief, mentioned that the new corridor will significantly improve the movement of traffic between Guwahati and Silchar, and enhance connectivity to Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and the Barak Valley region of Assam.

It will also facilitate access to major airports in Guwahati, Shillong, and Silchar, and connect key cities and towns including Diengpasoh, Ummulong, Phramer, Khlieriat, Ratachera, Umkiang, and Kalai.
