Infrastructure  -  Jun 10,2025  -

The Telangana Cabinet has given its approval to the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B project, estimated at Rs 19,579 crore, as a joint initiative with the Central government.

Officials confirmed that the detailed project reports (DPRs) for these routes will be submitted to the Centre for approval and joint execution. Telangana Minister Srinivas Reddy has urged Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to expedite the Centre’s clearance and financial assistance for the project.

Spanning 86.1 km, the phase is designed to ease traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility across Hyderabad through three strategic corridors.

Corridor-1 will link Shamshabad Airport to Future City over 39.6 km, Corridor-2 will connect Jubilee Bus Station to Medchal (24.5 km), and Corridor-3 will run from Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet (22 km).

Phase 2B complements Phase 2A — a 76.4 km network over five routes estimated at Rs 24,269 crore,  which is currently awaiting Central review. Combined, Phases 2A and 2B aim to establish a 162.5 km Metro system over eight corridors, with a total investment of Rs 43,848 crore. The expansion is expected to greatly improve connectivity, especially to Shamshabad Airport and northern suburbs.
