Tata Power to invest Rs 11,000 crore in Pune pumped-hydro project

Power Generation  -  Nov 06,2025  -

Tata Power has announced an Rs 11,000 crore investment to develop a 2,800 MWh pumped-storage hydro project in Pune district, Maharashtra.

The facility will enhance grid stability by storing excess renewable energy and supplying it during peak demand periods.

The project marks a key milestone in Tata Power’s shift towards clean energy, aligning with its goal of achieving 70 percent renewable generation capacity by 2030.

It will also support Maharashtra’s broader renewable-energy roadmap, which targets significant additions in solar and wind capacity.

Pumped-hydro storage systems are critical for balancing India’s rapidly expanding renewable fleet. With rising industrial power demand and the intermittent nature of solar output, such projects provide essential load management and grid flexibility.
