Tata Chemicals to invest Rs. 910 crore to expand Mithapur and Cuddalore capacities

Manufacturing  -  Nov 21,2025  -

Tata Chemicals’ board has approved a combined capex of Rs. 910 crore to expand manufacturing at two strategic sites: Rs. 135 crore to raise dense soda ash capacity at Mithapur (Gujarat) and Rs. 775 crore to increase precipitated silica output at Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu).

The company filed the approvals in a regulatory update, positioning the investments as capacity-led moves to capture higher-value downstream markets.

The Mithapur expansion targets dense soda ash, a core feedstock for glass, detergents and certain chemical processes; boosting capacity will help Tata Chemicals better serve both domestic industrial demand and export customers.

Meanwhile, scaling precipitated silica at Cuddalore taps into fast-growing segments such as tyre and specialty-rubber additives, toothpaste abrasives and performance silicones — markets that command better margins than commodity chemicals.
