Reliance Defence has joined forces with Germany's Diehl Defence to manufacture the advanced Vulcano 155mm precision-guided ammunition system right here in India. This agreement is a crucial step towards India's goal of relying less on imported military goods and strengthening its own defense production capabilities.

The partnership, announced on June 10, will see Reliance Defence leading the manufacturing, with Diehl Defence providing essential technologies and guidance systems. These advanced artillery shells, designed for long-range and highly accurate strikes, will be made at a new facility in Ratnagiri’s Watad Industrial Area, which is part of the upcoming Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City.

The Vulcano 155mm system uses laser and GPS guidance to hit targets with exceptional precision. Adding this to India's artillery will significantly boost the armed forces' operational abilities, especially in high-pressure combat situations where accuracy is vital.

Reliance Defence expects this collaboration could bring in Rs 10,000 crore in business, highlighting the growing demand for precision ammunition and the importance of making such technologies locally. 

The project is projected to have over 50% Indian-made content, supporting India’s 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) vision and helping the government reach its Rs 50,000 crore defense export goal by 2029.
