Prime Minister inaugurates first unit of SJVN's Buxar Thermal Power Project

Power Generation  -  Aug 22,2025  -

The Buxar Thermal Power Project, a key infrastructure development in Bihar, has reached a major milestone with the virtual inauguration of its first 660 MW unit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Located in Chausa, the plant is a flagship project of SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a subsidiary of SJVN.

With a total project cost of approximately Rs 14,390 crore, this new unit will supply 85% of its generated power to Bihar, addressing the state's significant energy needs and reducing peak-hour shortages.

The project is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually once both of its 660 MW units are fully operational.

This enhanced power availability is expected to attract large-scale industrial investments, boost economic growth, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the state's development.
