Power Generation  -  Jun 16,2025  -

NTPC, India’s largest power producer under the Ministry of Power, has finished the trial operations for Unit-3 (660 MW) of its North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in the Chatra district of Jharkhand. With this addition, NTPC’s total installed capacity has reached 81,368 MW, including 60,266 MW on its own.

The North Karanpura STPP is a coal-based project with three units, each producing 660 MW (3x660 MW). With Unit-3 now successfully running, all three units are in operation, greatly adding to India's thermal power generation. In an official filing, NTPC stated, "Unit-3, with a 660 MW capacity, has completed its trial operation and is now part of NTPC Limited's installed capacity."

This achievement highlights NTPC’s important role in strengthening the country’s basic power supply through effective thermal power infrastructure. The addition at North Karanpura reinforces its dedication to ensuring energy security and reliability in India.
