NHPC begins commercial operation at Karnisar Solar Power Project

NHPC has started commercial operation of part capacity of 53.57 MW of its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project, at Bikaner, Rajasthan. 

With this, the total operational capacity of the project has reached 160.71 MW.

"After successful completion of trial run on June 5, 2025, NHPC declares commercial operation date (COD) of 3rd phase of part capacity of 53.57 MW w.e.f. June 7, 2025 of 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project, Bikaner. The cumulative commercial operation capacity of above project has reached to 160.71 MW out of total 300 MW," the company stated in a regulatory filing.

Last month, NHPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL) to develop pumped storage and other renewable energy projects in Rajasthan in joint venture mode. 

In the first phase, two pumped storage projects (PSPs) of 1,000 MW each are being considered for development.

In April 2025, NHPC announced its plan to develop a 1200 MW solar park in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district at an estimated cost of INR 796.96 crore through its JV subsidiary Bundelkhand Saur Urja Ltd.
