Maharashtra approves two new metro corridors for Pune city

Infrastructure  -  Nov 05,2025  -

The Maharashtra state government has approved two new metro corridors for Pune to ease congestion and support urban mobility.

The proposed lines will enhance connectivity between key residential, IT, and industrial zones, reinforcing Pune’s status as one of India’s fastest-growing urban centres.

The corridors—spanning multiple kilometres—are part of the Pune Metro Phase III expansion plan. They are expected to significantly reduce travel times and cut vehicular emissions in the city, which has seen rapid population and vehicular growth in recent years.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will oversee the projects, integrating them with existing metro lines and feeder bus systems. Funding will be drawn from state allocations and multilateral development banks.

This move reflects Maharashtra’s continued emphasis on sustainable urban mobility under its Smart Cities initiative. Once completed, the new metro routes will further boost real-estate value and attract commercial investment along their corridors.
